The SPD Property Crimes Unit investigates those crimes related to property, including burglary and theft of stolen property. In addition, Fraud detectives are also assigned to this unit, who conduct investigations regarding forgery, fraud, embezzlement, and identity theft. Fraud is closely related to Property Crimes, as many of the items used to commit fraud are obtained during the commission of a burglary or vehicle prowl. Detectives in this unit focus on the recovery of stolen property as well as crimes that relate to a crime series or the likelihood a repeat offender is responsible. To that end, the Property Crimes Unit often works with Targeted Crime Unit and Patrol Anti Crime Team to focus on those prolific offenders responsible for committing these crimes.
