Officers Arrest Robbery Suspect

Contact : Sgt. Kevin King Date : 6/13/2011
Incident #: 11-175482

On June 11th, 2011, at 11:04 pm, Spokane Police Officers responded to an Armed Robbery of the M&K Market at Wellesley and Market.  Witnesses observed the suspect in the E. 3000 Block of Heroy.  A SPD Police K-9 also tracked the suspect to this location but he was not located at the time. The K-9 gave a strong indication around an abandoned garage in this block.  Officer Rob Boothe took a report from the victim and obtained a suspect description.  The suspect was described as a white male wearing a camouflage top, gloves, mask, and was armed with a knife.

On June 13th, 2011, at 1:14 am, Spokane Police Officer Adam Valdez was patrolling this same area of E. 3000 Heroy and saw a subject digging through the trash.  He noticed that this person matched the general physical characteristics as the robbery suspect and stopped him.  This person made statements about being in the abandoned garage earlier.  Upon entering this garage, officers discovered clothing worn by the Robbery suspect on the floor.  Also inside the garage was this subject’s wallet lying next to a baggie of Methamphetamine.

Officer Valdez then located a black nylon bag hidden underneath a tree trunk behind the garage.  Inside this bag were the mask, gloves, and knife used in the Robbery.  Officers Valdez and Boothe developed enough evidence to charge the subject, Garry L. George, a 42 year old transient, with 1st Degree Robbery and Possession of a Controlled Substance- Methamphetamine.

This is an excellent example of how follow-up police work resulted in the arrest of an outstanding Armed Robbery suspect, taking him off of the streets of Spokane.
