A reckless driver in the area of 3300 E Cleveland led Spokane police on a pursuit through the streets north Spokane at about 7:45 PM today. The vehicle pursuit ended at Post and Euclid where the suspect crashed his vehicle into another vehicle. The suspect driver then fled the scene on foot and was quickly captured by police.
Spokane police were in the area of 3300 E Grace investigating a stolen vehicle. As officers were in the area they heard what they believed to be a gunshot. Seconds later a dark colored vehicle, at a high rate of speed, drove towards the officers and turned off. Officers attempted to follow the vehicle but the speeds were too fast to follow safely. Officers in the area of Bridgeport and Perry saw the vehicle driving recklessly and again attempted to stop the vehicle with lights and siren. The vehicle continued west through residential areas and across Division where it eventually crashed into another vehicle at Post and Euclid. The driver then fled the scene of the crash and was located hiding in a nearby garage by Spokane police K-9 Officer Craig Hamilton and his dog Leonidas. The driver was identified as 21 year old Nicholas A. O'Neill. O'Neills vehicle was not stolen nor was it involved with the initial stolen vehicle that officers were investigating.
Officers did locate a handgun on the floor of O'Neills vehicle. It is unknown if the gunshot and O'Neill are related from the area of 3300 Cleveland as the investigation is ongoing. Oneill will be booked into the Spokane County jail for attempt to elude and vehicular assault. The crash sent the driver of the other vehicle to an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The intersection of Post and Euclid was closed for about three hours as the scene was investigated.
