Safe Traffic Operation Program (STOP)
STOP is a voluntary class offered by the Spokane Police Department. It is designed to improve driver awareness and understanding of traffic laws, and to promote safe driving skills.
This program is for drivers who have received a Notice of Traffic Violation and DO NOT have the following conditions:
Ticket is for multiple violations, unless a single violation is accompanied by a second violation of no insurance.
Ticket is only for a violation of no insurance.
Ticket is for any of the following violations:
No Valid Operator’s License.
Intermediate Drivers License
Drivers License Restrictions
The driver has completed STOP within the last two (2) years.
The driver obtained the deferral of a prior traffic infraction and the deferral is still pending.
A ticket associated with a collision.
A commercial driver's license.
License is suspended, revoked, or expired.
The ticket includes any criminal charge.
STOP is designed to improve driver awareness and understanding of traffic laws, and to promote safe driving skills. Upon successful completion of STOP, your ticket will be dismissed and will not be reported to the Department of Licensing.
STEP 1: You are required to respond to your ticket within 15 days of receipt. If you choose to attend STOP, you should request a court hearing as instructed on your copy of the ticket.
STEP 2: Complete the STOP application. Application Form

STEP 3: Submit the following items to the Clerk’s Office at the address above:
Completed STOP application; and
Class entry fee of $124
(cash, check or money order)
STEP 4: The Clerk’s Office will review your application for eligibility and, if you qualify for STOP, you will be given a date to attend a STOP class at the bottom of your application. If you do not qualify, you will be notified of the reason for ineligibility.
STEP 5: Attend and successfully complete the STOP class.
STEP 6: Upon completion of STOP, Spokane Municipal Court will be notified you have completed the class and the court will dismiss your ticket. There will be no further fine or legal action and you will NOT have to appear for the hearing date you received.

You must attend either one Saturday session from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm or two sessions on consecutive Tuesday/Thursday from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm.
At the time of class, you must present both:
A valid driver’s license; and
Proof of current insurance if you were also cited for a no insurance violation.
Requirements of the class include:
You must be on time.
You must attend the entire class.
You must behave appropriately.
No children, guests or pets are allowed.
No drugs or alcohol.
If you do not follow the requirements, you will be dismissed from class.
Dismissal from class or failure to attend class will require you to attend your court hearing.

All Traffic School classes are conducted at the Spokane Police Academy which is accessible to all members of the public. Additional information with regard to accessibility or request for a specific ADA accommodation should be made to the Traffic School at the time of application and at least forty eight (48) hours in advance of the classes.
