The Citizen Volunteer program is essentially a service program. It functions to augment and assist the commissioned and non-commissioned members of the SPD in their performance of their duties. This program fills the gap between college age volunteers and retired senior volunteers. Applicants must be 18 years of age.

The Spokane Police Department (SPD) invites members of our community to participate in our ride along program. Due to citizen and officer safety, SPD's ride along policy is strictly managed. SPD will conduct a background check before a ride along occurs. Preference will be given to those affiliated with police programs in some capacity (i.e. candidates for hire, individuals enrolled in law enforcement academic courses, officers from other jurisdictions or functions associated with SPD). Requests for a ride along can be made by calling or sending an e-mail to Sgt. Yamada at (509) 625-4003 or email@example.com The e-mail must include the reason you want to go on a ride along, your full legal name (first, middle, and last name), date of birth, and drivers' license or identification card number. Please indicate which state issued your driver's license or identification card. You can also include dates two weeks out from the date of your e-mail that you are available to participate in the ride along.
